Ashbury all heart with Grovedale CFA donation

1 March 2016

Located centrally between the Geelong city centre and the beautiful Surf Coast, Ashbury is giving residents and locals more than a picturesque place to live. Today, the estate has announced a generous donation to the Country Fire Authority (CFA) Grovedale that may lead to helping save many lives in the area in the years to come.

The donation, which coincides with the CFA’s busiest time of year, will help enable the brigade to invest in three heart defibrillators to aid the volunteers should an emergency cardiac arrest arise while in the field.

Bert Dennis, Chairman of Ashbury’s developer the Dennis Family Corporation, said the donation is in keeping with the company’s long-standing commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates.

“Ashbury is about creating a new community and we’re committed to contributing further by supporting local businesses, organisations and emergency services in the surrounding area,” Mr Dennis commented.

“This donation recognises the vital work carried out by the dedicated volunteers of CFA Grovedale and is being put to excellent use through the acquisition of the defibrillators,” he added.

CFA Grovedale Captain, Robert Clarke described the new defibrillators as a welcome addition to the already well-equipped brigade.

“Not many people know that we carry heart defibrillators on board the fire truck, but should an emergency arise at an event or incident, and before an ambulance arrives, the equipment could potentially be life-saving,” he explained.

“The majority of our team are highly skilled and trained and will be on hand in the future to ensure the local community are completely protected and covered. This additional piece of equipment enhances our capacity to respond in the future,” he continued.

The Grovedale CFA currently has more than 60 members of the brigade, of which 40 are operational staff, providing support for emergency conditions including wildfire suppression, structural fire and transport-related fire suppression, road rescue and other emergency activities including flood assistance. As well as, non-emergency activities including community and fire safety programs, technical services, vegetation management and planned burning.
