The outstanding landscaping features of the Morningside estate, in Gisborne, have been recognised with the development winning the judges' Landscaping Award at the prestigious Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) - Victorian Awards.
This award recognises the design, innovation and construction techniques used to landscape the development and in particular the extensive use of natural materials. Morningside was also a finalist in the UDIA Environmental Excellence category.
Morningside Development Manager, Nathan Jenkinson, says winning the award was a terrific recognition of all the planning that has gone into making Morningside the premier estate that it is today.
"The conceptual design for Morningside was to ensure the natural beauty of the land is maintained whilst creating a special place for residents to call home. We have fulfilled this vision by implementing extensive landscaping measures such as planting 30,000 plants, reusing timber for features including seating, tables, signage and retaining walls, and creating irregular lots so that native vegetation is maintained."
"We are extremely pleased that by taking these steps we are not only creating a spectacular, environmentally sustainable development, but that we have also been recognised by the UDIA," he says.
Morningside is a 50 lot development located just minutes from the centre of Gisborne. Allotments range in size from 1,039sqm to 3,238sqm all nestled amongst the site's mature native trees with a limited number enjoying spectacular views of the Macedon Ranges. The entire estate has been designed to work with the existing character of the landscape with nearly half of the development to be left as open space for residents and wildlife to enjoy.
